PROJECTS MANAGE BY PAKISTAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
MODEL VILLAGE FOR FLOOD AFFECTED LDPS IN SINDH
Pakistan Medical Association in collaboration with UK DOCTORS ASSOCIATION has developed a model village for internal displaced people (IDP) due to flood disaster 2010 at Guju / Gharo.
Under this project 100 two rooms houses have been constructed with the facilities of schools, hospitals, community hall, and vocational centre for community development, play grounds, Public Park and places for worships. Through this intervention 100 flood affected families have been rehabilitated and supported to initiate their new lives after disaster. To address the serious issue of women empowerment in our society PMA has allocated these houses to the women member of the family. PMA hope this initiative will definitely give powers to the marginalized and neglected community.
CELEBRATION OF MOTHER & CHILD HEALTH WEAK
With support of UNICEF, PMA conducted a series of health education sessions and seminars all over the Sind to promote and create awareness on preventive health issues both for health care providers and also for the community. PMA believes that prevention by simple intervention like promotion of hand washing and safe drinking water can prevent mother and child from serious illnesses.
AWARENESS SEMINARS ON ROLE OF ZINC IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DIARRHEA
PMA in collaboration with abt-(international NGO) conducted series of zinc awareness seminars under the head of POZAN project. In this activity PMA organized awareness seminars on the role of zinc for prevention of diarrhea in children. These seminars were conducted all over the country in hospitals managed by public sector.
Pakistan Medical Association is working on Health Commission Bill in Pakistan, which is under the process. Once this bill is adopted by the Assembly it will address the important issues faced by the Medical Profession and Health Delivery System in the country, like Patients rights, Doctors rights, Patients death due to negligence or Complications, quackery etc.
In collaboration with UK Doctor’s Association, PMA has establishing a tertiary care level hospital in Muzaffarabad.
In collaboration with sister organizations include SOGP, PNFWH, PPA, POA etc organizing series of CME programs on regular basis for doctors, nurses and midwives to create awareness on modern methods of treatment available globally to managing epidemic diseases of Pakistan like TB, Dengue, Hepatitis etc.
PMA organizes meetings and focus group discussions with NGOs, media and civil society representatives to address public health issues and recommendations of their solutions are dissemination through print and electronic media on regular basis.
HEALTH MARATHON WALK
PMA organizes HEALTH MARATHON /WALK twice a year participated by more than 15,000 students, doctors, paramedic staffs, NGOs, civil society representatives. Themes of these events are always health related. Recently organized Marathon was on DENGUE FEVER. Through this event, PMA gave awareness on the prevention of this disease and removed myths and misconceptions related to their prognosis, investigation and its
BIENNIAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
PMA is also organizing scientific conference for doctors after every two years in different cities of Pakistan, participated by more than 3000 doctors, physicians, surgeons, gynecologists and public health professionals. Last year PMA organized its 31st Scientific Conference from 07th November to 09th November 2014” in Lahore.
PMA also published and disseminate number of publications in the form of the Medical Gazette, Medical Spectrum, NABZ and Journal of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA) through which it updates the health community on public health issues, updated clinical protocols, research papers and global innovations in health care industry.
PMA’s HEALTH REPORT
PMA has been issuing its Annual Health Report, namely Health of the Nation, for the last many years. Through this report we continuously highlight our poor health indicators. PMA has been highlighting the simple fact that public health is a victim of misplaced priority and wide separate corruption. Most of the Pakistani’s have no access to Primary Health Care, Emergency of Critical Care or Emergency Health Care. This report is widely covered in the press. “Health of the Nation” has become a reference document for the people working on health issues.
YOUTH HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAME
PMA Centre is involved with Minister of Youth Affairs, Government of Sindh in Organizing different Workshops and Seminars across the Province regarding the awareness of different Health Issues particularly in the younger generation. These Seminars and Workshops were organized at Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Ghotki, Umerkot etc.
Doctors from PMA in different cities took part in these Seminars and Workshops as professional guest / speakers.
